Water Hauling Driver – Natural Gas Operations (Colorado)
Position Overview
The Water Hauling Driver supports Colorado natural gas drilling, completion, and production operations by safely transporting fresh water, produced water, and recycled fluids to and from well pads, tank batteries, and approved facilities. This position operates in compliance with Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) regulations, Colorado Energy & Carbon Management Commission (ECMC / formerly COGCC) rules, and all applicable DOT requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Driving & Transport
- Operate water trucks on Colorado highways, county roads, and unmaintained gas field access roads.
- Transport fresh, produced, or recycled water to ENR facilities, completion, workover, and production sites.
- Comply with Colorado State Highway laws, DOT Hours of Service, and company driving standards.
- Maintain a professional working relationship working with property owners, complying with property gates cattleguards
- Operate safely in mountainous terrain, winter weather, and variable road conditions on leased access roads common to Colorado.

Loading & Unloading Operations
- Load and offload water using pumps, valves, hoses, and manifolds per site-specific procedures.
- Verify proper containment, secondary containment, and spill prevention measures at all well locations.
- Accurately document load volumes, destinations, and transfer details per company and state requirements.
Safety, Environmental & Regulatory Compliance
- Follow CDPHE spill prevention, response, and reporting requirements.
- Operate in compliance with ECMC (COGCC) Rules 601–606, including site safety, housekeeping, and environmental controls.
- Immediately report spills, leaks, near-misses, and unsafe conditions in accordance with Colorado regulations.
- Maintain proper use of PPE and follow Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Safe Work Permits.
- Participate in required HAZCOM, Spill Response, and safety training.
Equipment & Vehicle Maintenance
- Conduct thorough DAILY pre-trip and post-trip inspections per DOT and company DVIR(s).
- Ensure water truck, tanks, hoses, and fittings are well maintained and leak-free.
- Identify mechanical issues early and coordinate repairs with field maintenance.
Communication & Documentation
- Maintain ongoing communication with dispatch, supervisors, and site personnel.
- Complete driver logs, load tickets, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and environmental documentation accurately.
- Support audits and inspections related to DOT, CDPHE, and ECMC compliance.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Colorado CDL Class A or B with Tanker endorsement.
- Acceptable MVR in compliance with DOT and company insurance requirements.
- Knowledge of Colorado gas field operations preferred.
- Ability to work rotating schedules, long shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Physically capable of lifting hoses, climbing trucks and tanks, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous water hauling experience in Colorado oil & gas operations.
- Familiarity with spill kits, secondary containment, and environmental reporting.
- Awareness of local county road restrictions and site access requirements.
Work Environment
- Active gas well sites throughout Colorado.
- Exposure to heavy equipment, noise, dust, extreme temperatures, and high alpine conditions.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and at times lift and/or move up to 100
- Safety-sensitive position subject to DOT drug & alcohol testing.
